Born in Newark, NJ to two hard working African American parents Jasmine understood a reality of dedication, hard work, family, and loyalty to not only who she is, but also where she is from. Growing up under the artistry and guidance of Halim Suliman, Amiri Baraka, and William Manns,  Jasmine knew that she wanted to change the world with her words. She is a recipient of a $20,000 art scholarship from The Star Ledger-NJPAC, and a recipient of a First Wave scholarship, a spoken word and hip hop scholarship program at University of Wisconsin - Madison.

In 2008, on the Kennedy Center stage, Jasmine would become apart of Robert Redford’s Green Team raising awareness about global warming through performance poetry. Jasmine also participated in The Knicks Poetry Slam on Broadway and was a member of the 1st place team at CUPSI College Poetry National Festival. She has appeared on “HBO’s Def Poetry” and HBO’s Russell Simmons presents “Brave New Voices”  where her slam poetry experience was documented. Jasmine gained media buzz for her thought provoking piece about rapper Nicki Minaj,“The Mis-Education of Barbie”. With almost 400,00 views, her unapologetic critique/thoughts on the rapper’s portrayal in mainstream media caught the attention of several media outlets, and gained her a guest editorial spot on AllHipHop.com. Most recently, Jasmine has been name as one of  Glamour ‘s Top Ten College Women.
